El Casino Merkur Hohensyburg, uno de los cuatro casinos en Renania del Norte-Westfalia, fue construido entre 1983 y 1985 según los planes del arquitecto Harald Deilmann cerca de Hohensyburg en Dortmund y es el tercer casino en NRW. El Casino Merkur Hohensyburg pertenece a la empresa Gauselmann-Gruppe. El estado de NRW vendió el 1 de septiembre de 2021 los cuatro casinos en el estado a la empresa por un precio total de 141,8 millones de EUR. Hasta la apertura del Casino Merkur Duisburg, el casino de Dortmund fue el más rentable de Alemania.
