La central eléctrica de Westerholt era una central térmica de carbón en Gelsenkirchen-Hassel. La central constaba de dos bloques construidos en la década de 1960, cada uno con 150 megavatios. La central se cerró el 13 de mayo de 2003 y posteriormente fue demolida.
En 1959, el primer bloque de 150 megavatios de la central se conectó a la red. Dos años después, siguió el segundo bloque de 150 megavatios. Aproximadamente 230 trabajadores estaban empleados en la central. El 12 de septiembre de 1981, se celebró la fiesta de colocación de la primera piedra del chimenea de 300 metros de altura. La chimenea medía 23,5 m de diámetro en la base y 9,10 m en la parte superior.
