El Selz es un afluente de 61 km de longitud del Rin, ubicado al sur y a la izquierda, y uno de los principales cuerpos de agua en Rheinhessen. Fluye a través de la región de mesas y colinas de Rheinhessen en Renania-Palatinado, a través del distrito de Donnersberg en el Palatinado, así como los distritos rheinhessianos de Alzey-Worms y Mainz-Bingen.
Con una aportación de flujo de solo 2 l/, la cuenca de la Selz, que fluye en la sombra del norte de la Sierra del Palatinado, se encuentra entre las más secas de Alemania. Su caudal medio es de 0,77 m³/s, con un rango de variación de 0,3 a 20 m³/s.
