La mina Pluto fue una mina de carbón en Herne, en el distrito de Wanne-Eickel. La mina se había llamado inicialmente mina San Nicolás y luego fue renombrada como mina Pluto. El nombre de la mina está inspirado en el dios griego Plutón, el dios del inframundo. La mina Pluto fue uno de los miembros fundadores del Sindicato del Carbón del Rin-Westfalia. Además, la Sociedad Anónima Minera Pluto fue miembro fundador de la Asociación para los intereses mineros. En la segunda mitad del siglo XIX, la mina fue una de las más importantes del distrito gubernamental de Arnsberg.
