Kossenblatt se encuentra en la L443 en el suroeste de Tauche, en el borde sur de la meseta de Beeskow. Cerca se encuentran el pequeño y el gran lago de Kossenblatt. A través de la vía acuática se puede llegar desde Kossenblatt al lago Schwielochsee, así como al lago Neuendorfer, que se encuentra en el Unterspreewald.
En los siguientes siglos, el nombre del lugar se presenta en las grafías Kozzenblot, Kossinblot y Cossenblad. Hay varias teorías sobre la denominación del lugar. Mientras que no hay consenso sobre el significado de la primera parte del nombre, la derivación de “-blatt” del término sorbio błoto que significa “pantano” es indiscutible. El sorbio se habló en los alrededores de Kossenblatt hasta principios del siglo XIX.
