El Falkenstein es una de las formaciones rocosas independientes más impresionantes de la Suiza Sajona en el estado libre de Sajonia. Se encuentra cerca de Bad Schandau en los Schrammsteine, donde está ubicado. La enorme roca tiene casi cien metros de altura y está compuesta de arenisca. En la Edad Media, había una torre de vigilancia en el Falkenstein; todavía hoy son visibles las escaleras talladas en la roca y las vigas de soporte.
Probablemente desde mediados del siglo XIV, el Falkenstein fue ampliado y utilizado como torre de vigilancia. Pertenecía, al igual que casi toda la Suiza Sajona en la orilla derecha del Elba, al dominio de Hohnstein, con sede en el castillo de Hohnstein, que la familia noble checa Berka de Dubá recibió como feudo bohemio del emperador Carlos IV en 1353.
