Rückersdorf es una antigua aldea independiente que, a partir de 1994, formó parte del nuevo municipio de Hohwald y en 2007 se convirtió en un distrito de Neustadt en Sajonia, en el distrito de Suiza Sajona-Osterzgebirge.
Rückersdorf se encuentra entre el Hohwald y la llanura norte de la sierra de arenisca del Elba. Las ciudades vecinas son Neustadt en Sajonia y Stolpen. Está rodeado por tres elevaciones: al norte, el Tannenberg de 436 metros de altura; al este, el Wachberg de 437 metros; y al suroeste, el Haselberg de 380 metros. Por el lugar fluye el arroyo Rückersdorfer, también conocido como Losse, que desemboca en el Polenz.
