Ya en el año 836, simultáneamente con San Castor al otro lado del Rin, se completó una primera iglesia en Vallendar y fue consagrada por el obispo de Tréveris Hetti bajo el patrocinio de los mártires romanos de las catacumbas y de los santos canónicos Marcellinus y Pedro. Se sabe poco sobre esta construcción. Fue reemplazada en el siglo XIII por un nuevo edificio. La iglesia era el centro de la parroquia más grande del lado derecho del Rin. La fachada original de doble torre fue reemplazada en 1501 por la actual torre oeste. A finales del siglo XVIII, la iglesia se volvió demasiado pequeña y estaba en mal estado; a excepción de la torre, fue demolida y se construyó la iglesia actual, según los planos del inspector de construcción real Johann Claudius von Lassaulx. La nueva iglesia fue consagrada el 19 de septiembre de 1841. Hoy es la iglesia parroquial de la parroquia homónima y forma junto con San Pedro y San Pablo en Urbar y San Jorge en Niederwerth la comunidad parroquial Vallendar en la diócesis de Tréveris.
