¿Sabías que el insignificante pueblo montañés de Numantia era como una especie de aldea de Asterix reaccionaria? Se atrevieron a quitarse el yugo romano. Forzaron a legión tras legión romana a rendirse o retirarse con vergüenza. En el 134 a.C., los romanos enviaron a Escipión Emiliano, el más destacado general de Roma que arrasó Cartago. Trajo a 30,000 soldados, pero no luchó. Rodeó Numantia. Después de más de un año, se agotaron las provisiones. Cuando los numantinos se dieron cuenta de que todo había terminado, incendiaron su pueblo. La mayoría de ellos se suicidó. Numantia se convirtió en un símbolo de independencia y coraje español. Miguel de Cervantes escribió una tragedia sobre esta historia: "El cerco de Numantia".
