La bahía de Algeciras se encuentra situada en el sur de la península ibérica, en la orilla norte del estrecho de Gibraltar. Comprende el tramo de costa delimitado por punta Carnero y punta Europa con un fondo de unos 10 km, una anchura mínima de 8 km, una superficie de 7500 ha y con profundidades de hasta 400 m.[1] Su ribera pertenece de oeste a este y en sentido horario a los municipios españoles de Algeciras, Los Barrios, San Roque y La Línea de la Concepción y al territorio británico de Ultramar de Gibraltar con una población total superior a los 250 000 habitantes.
