A lo largo de los últimos 22 siglos, las grandes corrientes históricas y culturales han dejado su huella en la ciudad.
Desde la época de la ciudad gala, convertida en campamento romano conocido como "Tres Tabernae", hasta nuestros días, Saverne ha conservado vestigios de su papel histórico y de su vida pasada: restos de la muralla romana, muralla medieval, iglesia románica, claustro, casas notables, etc. La ciudad se encuentra en un marco natural excepcional, al pie de montañas boscosas coronadas por castillos fortificados que la rodean como centinelas.
