El Queyras es un valle del departamento de Altos Alpes, pero también un parque natural regional, donde se practica el esquí en invierno y el senderismo en verano. Está atravesado, en particular, por el GR 58 que permite dar la vuelta o el GR 5.
El Queyras debe su nombre a la tribu gala de los Quariates, habitantes de los Alpes occidentales, integrada en el reino de Cottius. Su nombre significaría en viejo céltico continental «los del caldero», ya que entre los celtas, así como entre otros pueblos indoeuropeos, existía un culto asociado a este objeto y Xavier Delamarre escribe que «se conoce la importancia del caldero en los relatos de la mitología irlandesa».
