Richard de Clare, VI conde de Gloucester, murió en la mansión de John de Criol en Asbenfield, en Temple Waltham, el 14 de julio de 1262 a la edad de 39 años; se rumoreaba que había sido envenenado en la mesa de Piers de Saboya.
Durante y antes del reinado de Eduardo III, la parroquia de Waltham estaba dentro del ciento de Bridge. Tras la fusión de algunos cientos, a finales del siglo XIX, la mayor parte de la parroquia estaba dentro del ciento de Bridge y Petham. De los dos alguaciles para el ciento consolidado, el actual monarca era el señor de la corte anual leet que elegía a un alguacil para el ciento de Bridge.
