Los agricultores han remodelado las laderas en terrazas durante siglos en Sifnos. Solo en las últimas décadas, el mantenimiento de estas terrazas ha ido en declive, debido a otro cultivo más fructífero que cosechar en la isla: el turismo. Mi estimación aproximada es que hay más de 500 km de muros de terrazas en la isla. Estas terrazas contienen más de 250 000 m**3 (metros cúbicos) de rocas que han sido recolocadas por los agricultores de Sifnos para crear este paisaje. Esto es comparable al volumen de una pirámide egipcia de tamaño pequeño.
