El Dodecaneso es uno de los archipiélagos griegos del mar Egeo, situado frente a la costa suroccidental de Asia Menor.
Administrativamente, forma parte de la periferia de Egeo Meridional. Tiene una superficie de 2.714 km² y una población de 200.452 habitantes . Conformó una prefectura hasta que el 1 de enero de 2011, con la nueva división administrativa de Grecia se dividió en cuatro unidades periféricas: Kálimnos, Karpatos, Cos y Rodas.[1] La capital de la prefectura era la ciudad de Rodas, en la isla homónima.
