Pavía[3] es una ciudad italiana de la región de Lombardía, capital de la provincia homónima. Tiene una población de 71 000 habitantes. El río Ticino cruza la ciudad, antes de confluir con el río Po. En el período romano se llamó Ticinum. La ciudad fue la capital del Reino Ostrogodo del 540 al 553, del Reino Lombardo de 572 a 774, del Reino de Italia de 774 a 1024 y sede de la corte Visconti de 1365 a 1413.
