La estación de tren de Franzensfeste es un importante nudo de transporte en Tirol del Sur. Su significado se deriva del hecho de que aquí convergen la línea del Brennero y la línea del Pusteria, lo que le da la función de una estación de separación.
La estación se encuentra a 747 m de altura, justo al lado del pequeño centro del pueblo de Franzensfeste, en la entrada del valle de Wipptal, a pocos kilómetros al norte de Brixen. El estrecho y escarpado valle ofrece aquí poco espacio entre el Eisack, el embalse de Franzensfeste y las laderas de las montañas, y está en gran parte ocupado por infraestructuras de transporte como la estación, la A22 y la SS 12.
