El empático retrato que Antonio Ugo hizo del famoso compositor Giuseppe Verdi se erige casi como un mecenas de la ópera de Palermo.
Verdi se alza intrigante y orgulloso en su aparente desfiladero en el flanco izquierdo del pronaos hexástilo (en los templos antiguos, este es el espacio frente a la cella precedido por columnas) del Basile Teatro Massimo.
Basile compuso el pequeño monumento de mármol según una estricta verticalidad simétrica en la que destaca el elemento fitomorfo eurítmico de la hoja de palma de hoja larga , de la que se ramifican dos hileras de cintas en forma de abanico, caracterizadas por una total conformidad formal con el léxico floral basiliano.
