La Veluwe es el complejo de morrenas más grande de los Países Bajos: 60 km de norte a sur, con una altura máxima de 110 metros. La Veluwe se formó hace unos 200.000 años durante la época glacial Saalien en el Pleistoceno. Los glaciares de unos 200 metros de grosor empujaron los depósitos de arena en el delta del Rin y el Mosa hacia los lados. Estas formaron las colinas que ahora constituyen la mayor parte de la Veluwe. Debido a que las colinas están compuestas de arena, el agua de lluvia desaparece rápidamente y fluye a una profundidad de decenas de metros en los bordes, donde vuelve a salir a la superficie.
