Urk, junto con Schokland, también pertenece al estricto reformado y conservador Cinturón Bíblico. También Urk, al igual que Schokland, era una isla antes del desagüe, ahora se encuentra en el límite de la zona de polder junto al IJsselmeer. Tiene un puerto interior y un puerto exterior y una flota que pesca tanto en el mar del Norte como en el IJsselmeer (para lenguado y limanda es el primer puerto de los Países Bajos). Como se dijo, los urkenses valoran las tradiciones, no solo en términos de fe, sino también en lo que respecta a la vestimenta: el traje tradicional se usa con gusto.
