El Cabo Norte se encuentra en el lado norte de la Emmapolder, en el límite del municipio de Het Hogeland en la provincia de Groninga. El último tramo hacia el Cabo Norte solo se puede alcanzar a pie o en bicicleta.
Para marcar el lugar y atraer más turistas, el entonces municipio de Eemsmond instaló en 2002 la obra de arte ‘La Puerta del Cielo’ o ‘Puerta Cabo Norte’ del artista René de Boer. El nombre ‘Cabo Norte’ fue creado al mismo tiempo que se instaló la obra de arte. El lugar en sí no es reconocible como ‘punto más extremo’, ya que la duna marina tiene un recorrido ligeramente curvado en ese lugar.
