El Maagjesbolwerk se completó en mayo de 2003 y fue diseñado por el arquitecto Hans Ruijssenaars, quien se inspiró en el pasado fortificado de Zwolle. La capa inferior del Maagjesbolwerk tiene diez metros de altura, lo que coincide con el bastión original que estaba en el mismo lugar. La forma puntiaguda del bastión también se refleja en el diseño.
