El Energiehal tenía una superficie de 6000 m². El Energiehal fue construido para la exposición E55 que se llevó a cabo de mayo a septiembre de 1955 en Róterdam. Esta exposición se realizó en el barrio Dijkzigt, donde ahora se encuentra la Facultad de Medicina de la Universidad Erasmus.
Después de la exposición, el Energiehal fue trasladado a la polder de Blijdorp, cerca de Kleinpolderplein, y durante muchos años sirvió como sala deportiva. En la década de 1990, además, se celebraban casi mensualmente grandes fiestas hardcore en el Energiehal. Algunas de las grandes fiestas que se llevaron a cabo allí son A Nightmare in Rotterdam, Terrordome, Megarave, Eurorave, Raver's Night. El Energiehal era conocido en la escena hardcore por su excelente sistema de sonido. La última rave se celebró en el Día de la Reina, el 30 de abril de 1999.
