Alrededor del Dobbeplas se ha creado un área de ciénegas con mucha agua y juncos.
El área de ciénegas está mucho más baja que el pólder circundante, porque en el pasado se extrajo turba aquí. La zona pantanosa ha sido plantada con árboles tras la excavación del turba y es gestionada por Staatsbosbeheer. Hay una abundancia de alimento y muchas posibilidades de lugares de anidación; un verdadero paraíso para las aves. La ruta de senderismo le permite experimentar el área de manera íntima y quizás se encuentre con ganado Galloway pastando o caballos islandeses.
