Al comienzo del siglo veinte, había una gran actividad en el puerto de Philippine. Hombres, mujeres y niños esperaban a la tripulación que regresaba de la recolección de mejillones. La contención del Braakman en 1952 significó el fin de la cultura del mejillón.
