João Braz Machado nació en São Brás de Alportel el 13 de marzo de 1912 y murió el 22 de junio de 1993 en Portimão. Fue poeta, periodista y escritor.
João Braz ganó su primer concurso de poesía a los 13 años. También fue consagrado Príncipe de los Poetas en 1951, en los Juegos Florales Nacionales.
Esta estatua fue diseñada por Arlindo Arez.
