La statue a été inaugurée en 1926, année de la mort du professeur, et se trouve dans l'enceinte de l'Institut, sur la Plaza de Guillermo Rances.
Adolfo Cabrera Pinto a vécu de 1855 à 1926. Dans la ville de La Laguna, Tenerife, il fut nommé directeur de l'Institut général et technique de la province de Santa Cruz de Tenerife, où il accomplit un énorme travail éducatif pendant plus de vingt ans.
Mais surtout, par arrêté royal du 11 avril 1913, il réussit à inclure l' Université de La Laguna dans le projet d'organisation administrative de l'Archipel. En plus d'être professeur, il fut un grand et éminent journaliste, rédacteur en chef du journal El Populair et collaborateur de nombreux autres journaux.
