Sur la Grand Place se déroule chaque année un grand spectacle : le Combat dit Lumeçon - un combat symbolique où un Saint-Georges, monté sur un cheval armé, transperce un dragon (appelé lumeçon, c'est-à-dire un ver) précisément au moment où le beffroi sonne 13h00. Cette célébration, unique en Belgique, a lieu chaque année le dimanche de la Trinité, le dimanche après la Pentecôte (mai ou juin). Elle fait partie d'une procession. Dans la Car d'Or, le matin de la Ducasse, le sanctuaire de Saint-Waltrude est porté à travers la ville, dans une procession qui trouve son origine en 1348, lorsque la région de Mons a été ravagée par la peste. Le cortège part à 10h00.
