Comme dans d'autres communes minières de la Limbourg, des quartiers de jardins et d'autres infrastructures ont également été aménagés à Beringen pour les mineurs et leurs familles. Entre-temps, la Mijncité est protégée en tant que paysage villageois. Dans les environs de la place Kiosk, on trouvait surtout des employés de mine ; les ouvriers vivaient un peu plus loin.
