À l'origine faisant partie du même domaine qu'Opgrimbie, il a probablement été détaché au 9ème ou 10ème siècle et est devenu plus ou moins une partie de Mechelen-sur-Maas, bien qu'il y ait formé un quartier autonome avec un maire élu chaque année. Après l'abolition de l'ancien régime, il a rejoint la commune de Mechelen-sur-Maas pour être annexé à Opgrimbie en 1851. Sur le plan ecclésiastique, Daalgrimbie a déjà rejoint la paroisse de Saint-Christophe d'Opgrimbie en 1842.
