Ce վճe bron (Crataegus monogyna) appartient aux Rosaceae, tout comme les pommes et les poires. C'est un arbuste épineux ou un petit arbre qui peut vivre très longtemps. Les fruits sont en forme de boule ou d'œuf, d'environ un cm de long, d'un rouge profond et mûrs en septembre. Les baies fournissent de la nourriture aux oiseaux en hiver.
Avant l'invention du fil barbelé, le prunellier, souvent associé à d'autres buissons épineux, était utilisé comme haie pour garder le bétail dans le pâturage. De telles haies étaient souvent posées ou tressées pour garder le bétail encore mieux à l'intérieur.
