Avant la Première Guerre mondiale, ''t Roggeveld, auberge et brasserie'' (voir l'inscription sur la carte postale). Ce lieu d'auberge remonte certainement à 1623 : dans des comptes, l'auberge "Te Rochevelle" est mentionnée, entre autres. Il est possible qu'il y ait déjà une brasserie à l'auberge à ce moment-là. Pendant la Première Guerre mondiale, l'auberge-brasserie sert de 'Ortskommandatur' allemande, l'auberge située en face, ''t Nieuw Roggeveld'' (Roeselarestraat), est aménagée en poste médical et hôpital de campagne. Comme cette zone n'a pas été détruite pendant la guerre, le collège des échevins et le conseil municipal se réunissent initialement dans cette auberge après 1918.
