En 1899, Lamay se voit attribuer un aumônier et, en 1909, la paroisse Saint-Joseph de Lamay devient une paroisse indépendante du diocèse de Liège. L’église a été construite en 1931 selon les plans de Dewandre.
Il s’agit d’une église cruciforme néo-romane avec une tour attachée à gauche, qui est couverte d’un toit en croupe. L’ensemble a été construit en blocs de pierre naturelle.
