Le Lapscheurse Gat est un ruisseau au sud de Sluis, qui est né à la suite de l'inondation de 1583 en tant que bras secondaire du Zwin. Le chenal maritime s'étendait initialement jusqu'à Heille, mais en 1591, la digue a également cédé là-bas, après quoi le chenal a continué à s'enfoncer dans les terres jusqu'à 1,5 km au-delà de Middelburg. Ainsi se sont formés la Papenkreek et la Meulekreek. Un bras secondaire du Lapscheurse Gat, l'actuel Stierskreek, s'étendait et s'étend jusqu'à Aardenburg. Du côté belge, on trouve encore la Verloren Kreek, à l'est du village de Sint-Rita.
