Jef Planckaert était l’un des meilleurs coureurs belges du début des années 1960. 1962 a été sans conteste sa meilleure année. Deuxième au Tour de France, il est devenu champion de Belgique et il a remporté Liège-Bastogne-Liège ainsi que la course à étapes Paris-Nice. Jef Planckaert est décédé en 2007. Deux ans plus tard, une statue a été érigée en son honneur dans son village natal d’Otegem. Attention, cette statue se ne trouve pas sur le réseau.
