Le nom de la rivière "Ourthe" trouverait son origine dans le mot celte "urd", qui désigne une rivière caillouteuse ou un courant rapide. Le cours inférieur de l'Ourthe parcourt les ravissants paysages de la Famenne. Sur les derniers kilomètres avant son confluent avec l'Amblève, l'Ourthe visite le Condroz. Vous ne trouverez pas de grandes villes dans la partie centrale des Ardennes. Durbuy -trop touristique - sera visité une autre fois. Marche-en-Famenne est ici le seul centre digne de ce nom. Sur le plan administratif, le bassin de l'Ourthe s'étend sur trois provinces différentes: Namur, Liège et le Luxembourg.
