Depuis le centre de Keerbergen, vous pouvez marcher jusqu'à la réserve naturelle de Broekelei, créée à partir d'un méandre de tourbe datant de l'ère glaciaire. Les eaux de fonte des rivières Demer et Dijle ont apporté tellement de sable que l'on en trouve encore aujourd'hui dans le sous-sol. Le sable, le limon et l'argile constituent une faune et une flore riches dans un paysage de bois humides et secs, de prairies, de mares, de ruisseaux et de fossés. Cinq bunkers, vestiges de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, ont été aménagés comme sites d'hibernation pour les chauves-souris. Vous traversez également la forêt de naissance, une initiative de 1997 du groupe environnemental.
