Les deux principaux centres résidentiels de Tielt se sont développés sur et le long d'une colline et ont donné naissance à deux paroisses : Sint-Martinus et Onze-Lieve-Vrouw. C'est à l'église de cette dernière que commence la promenade. De là, vous êtes conduit dans la forêt de Walen inférieure, qui s'étend largement dans la vallée de la Grote Motte. Cette petite rivière, ainsi que les nombreuses sources, font du Walenbos une forêt très aquatique, si bien que les bottes sont vraiment recommandées presque toute l'année. Après toutes ces beautés naturelles, un phénomène particulier vous attend : des vignes sur les pentes sud du Houwaartseberg.
