Ceci est un sentier de randonnée avec une forte empreinte historique. Lorsque la Seconde Guerre mondiale a commencé à menacer à l'horizon, l'armée belge a construit un cercle de défense autour de la ville stratégiquement importante de Gand. Sur les collines près d'Oosterzele, à quelques pas de Gand, des dizaines de bunkers renforcés ont été construits pour protéger la ville d'Artevelde.
