Montreux, depuis la fusion en 1961 du Châtelard et des Planches, est une commune suisse du canton de Vaud, située dans le district de la Riviera-Pays-d'Enhaut.
Le nom de Montreux est issu d'un diminutif du mot latin monasterium formé à l'aide du suffixe latin -olu . La plus ancienne mention connue, Monasteriolo au XIe siècle, correspond à cette forme. Elle devient par la suite Mustrul , Muistruo , Mustruel , de Mustreux , ecclesiam parrochialem Monstruaci .
