Le château de Girsberg est situé sur une colline de moraine de 40 mètres de haut au nord-ouest du hameau de Girsberg dans la commune de Stammheim dans le canton de Zurich.
Le château a été construit au 13ème siècle par Gyr von Stammheim. À partir de 1253, la famille s’appela constamment von Girsberg. Après l’extinction de la dynastie au 14ème siècle, le château passa aux Habsbourg, qui détenaient la haute juridiction. David von Winkelsheim serait né ici. Du 16ème au 18ème siècle, le château appartenait principalement aux patriciens de Schaffhouse. En 1756, le château a été détruit par un incendie, seule la tour résidentielle du 13ème siècle étant épargnée par les flammes. Cependant, le propriétaire de l’époque, Johann Georg Friedrich im Thurn, a reconstruit le château.
