La chapelle romane de Chalières se dresse dans un cimetière au sud-ouest de Moutier sur la route de Perrefitte. Il a été inauguré en 1019 en présence de l’empereur Henri II. Elle témoigne du passage du style ottonien au style roman en Suisse romande et a probablement servi d’église pour le monastère de Moutier-Grandval.
Le plan simple se compose d’une nef rectangulaire avec une abside surmontée d’une tourelle. Le dôme de l’abside est décoré d’importantes peintures murales. La bénédiction du Christ dans l’auréole est entourée des quatre symboles des évangélistes par les douze apôtres. Au sommet de l’arc de triomphe, le Christ imberbe est représenté dans un médaillon. À gauche, Abel sacrifie un agneau, à droite, Caïn tient une gerbe d’oreilles.
