Le sel de Gorleben est un gisement de sel situé à Gorleben, en Basse-Saxe. Le site est discuté comme un possible dépôt final pour les déchets hautement radioactifs. Depuis 1986, une mine a été créée pour explorer l'adéquation du sel pour un stockage final.
Le sel de Gorleben est un grand gisement de sel avec une profondeur d'environ 300 m à 3500 m. Les investigations souterraines ont été réalisées à une profondeur de 840 m et 870 m. Les inclusions de saumure que l'on trouve aujourd'hui dans le sel sont tout aussi anciennes que les roches salines qui composent le gisement, soit plus de 200 millions d'années.
