On soupçonne qu'un monastère a été construit sur le site d'un ancien château. On connaît une "tour et siège" fortifiée, dont la période de construction est inconnue.
Les maîtres d'œuvre ne peuvent probablement être que les prieurs du monastère, les comtes de Sulzbach au 11ème ou au début du 12ème siècle, les Staufer à la fin du 12ème ou au début du 13ème siècle. Après 1504, les seigneurs de Nuremberg ordonnèrent la démolition. Les pierres de la tour furent utilisées pour le remblai du fossé.
