L'église Vicelinkirche à Neumünster est située au sud-est du noyau de peuplement le plus ancien, Kleinflecken. Le ruisseau Schwale y décrit un arc, au milieu duquel s'élève l'impressionnant bâtiment, le symbole de la ville de Neumünster. L'église à tribune est considérée comme le bâtiment religieux néoclassique le plus important du Schleswig-Holstein. Le projet provient du directeur des constructions de Copenhague, Christian Frederik Hansen.
Durant toute son existence, elle fut l'église de garnison du régiment d'infanterie n° 163 du Schleswig-Holstein.
