La promenade du Rhin désigne le rivage aménagé du Rhin au niveau des quartiers de la vieille ville, de Carlstadt et du port de Düsseldorf. D'autres villes ont également des promenades au bord du Rhin ; ici, elle comprend les rues Tonhallenufer, Schlossufer, Rathausufer et Mannesmannufer.
La promenade a été créée au cours de l'avancée du rivage du Rhin entre 1898 et 1902. À l'époque, deux niveaux ont été construits. Le niveau inférieur servait à traiter le trafic maritime et offrait de l'espace pour les installations nécessaires. Au niveau supérieur, une promenade existait déjà à l'époque.
