Le RheinRuhrZentrum, à son ouverture en 1973, était l'un des premiers centres commerciaux couverts d'Allemagne. Il est situé à l'est de Mülheim an der Ruhr, à la frontière avec Essen, et dispose aujourd'hui d'environ 79 000 mètres carrés de surface de vente.
Le terrain de 200 000 mètres carrés a été utilisé jusqu'en 1929 par la mine Humboldt du Verein des mines de Mülheim. Par la suite, il a servi d'installation de transbordement de charbon.
