Le village se trouve dans la partie inférieure orientale de l'Illertal, à environ 2,5 km au sud d'Illertissen, à une altitude de 519 m au-dessus du niveau de la mer. À l'est, le terrain monte progressivement vers la forêt d'Oberroggenburg. Deux kilomètres à l'ouest se trouve la frontière avec le Bade-Wurtemberg.
La région était déjà habitée par des humains à l'époque mésolithique, comme le prouvent des découvertes isolées. Environ un kilomètre au sud du village se trouvait une station de plein air, protégée en tant que monument archéologique sous le numéro de dossier D-7-7826-0030.
