Ulmbach se trouve au nord de l’arrondissement de Main-Kinzig, sur les contreforts sud-est du Vogelsberg.
Ulmbach est bordé au nord par les villages de Fleschenbach et Neustall, à l’ouest sur le village d’Uerzell, au sud sur la ville principale de Steinau, au sud-ouest sur le village de Sarrod, à l’ouest sur le village de Rabenstein et au nord-ouest sur le village de Rebsdorf. À l’ouest d’Ulmbach se trouve le désert de Stubach, qui a été examiné dans des extraits par l’ASP en 2016.
