La réserve naturelle de l'Ouest de la forêt de Teutoburg est située sur le territoire des communes d'Augustdorf et de Schlangen ainsi que des villes de Detmold, Lage et Oerlinghausen dans le district de Lippe en Rhénanie-du-Nord-Westphalie. C'est la deuxième plus grande réserve naturelle du district.
Pour Augustdorf, Detmold, Lage, Oerlinghausen et Schlangen, un territoire d'environ 2325 ha est désigné comme réserve naturelle sous le numéro d'identification LIP-066 depuis 2004 avec le plan paysager n° 14 "Forêt de Teutoburg".
